Growing up, Labor Day marked the beginning of fall. For my Mama that meant getting ready for winter. 

Besides the special cleaning and packing and unpacking of seasonal clothes, it also meant a daily dose of Cod liver oil. We'd take that awful stuff until Easter. 

Mama believed it prevented us from getting sick during the winter. Turns out, Mama was right.
