Welcome, Friend

Welcome to Notes from Dr. Nozella. Whoever you are and whatever season of life you're in, I'm so glad you're here. I write with a special place in my heart for women 55 and beyond, but these notes are for anyone who wants to feel better, one small step at a time.

Maybe you've spent decades taking care of everyone else. Raising children. Supporting a husband. Caring for aging parents. Showing up at work, at church, and for every friend who needed you. And somewhere along the way, your own well-being slipped quietly to the bottom of the list.

Now you're noticing things. You're more tired than you used to be. Sleep doesn't come as easily. Your body feels different, and the advice you find online is either too complicated, too extreme, or clearly written for someone half your age.

I understand, because I've been there. My own wellness journey began in 2005, and for more than twenty years I've been learning and teaching whole-person wellness the way I believe it was meant to be: by God's design. Not through quick fixes or overwhelming programs, but through small, faithful choices made one day at a time.

That's what this blog is about. Every Friday, I'll share one simple, practical wellness tip you can actually use. No medical jargon. No guilt. Just encouragement from my heart to yours.

Consider this your weekly cup of tea with a friend who cares about how you're really doing.

A Simple Way to Think About Wellness: WAFFLES

Wellness can feel overwhelming when you try to tackle everything at once. So I use a simple framework to keep things clear. I call it WAFFLES, and yes, it's easy to remember on purpose.

  • Water. How much you drink, and the quality of what you drink. Hydration touches nearly every part of how you feel.
  • Air. The air you breathe at home, and how deeply you breathe it. A few slow, intentional breaths can shift your whole day.
  • Food. Nourishing your body with real, whole foods, and enjoying them without fear or guilt.
  • Fitness. Moving your body in ways that feel good and fit your season of life. A walk counts. Stretching counts.
  • Emotions. Tending to your heart and mind. Grief, joy, worry, and hope all live in the body, too.
  • Love. Your relationships with God, with others, and with yourself. Connection is medicine for the soul.
  • Sleep and Stress. Rest is not a luxury. It's how your body renews itself each night.
Each week, our tip will focus on one of these areas. Over time, these small steps add up to a life that feels lighter, calmer, and more like you.

This Week's Tip: Start With Water

Since W comes first, let's begin there. Here's your one small step for the week:

Drink a glass of water before your morning coffee or tea.

That's it. Set a glass by the kitchen sink or on your nightstand before bed so it's waiting for you. After a full night of rest, your body wakes up thirsty, and that first glass is a gentle way to say good morning to it.

If plain water feels boring, add a slice of lemon or cucumber. Some of my friends enjoy a drop of Young Living Lemon Vitality essential oil in a glass or stainless steel cup for a bright, fresh flavor. Keep it simple and make it something you look forward to.

As you drink, take a moment to pause. Breathe. Thank God for another day. You'll be surprised how this tiny ritual can set a calmer tone for everything that follows.

Let's Walk This Road Together

I'd love to hear how your first week goes. Did you try the morning glass of water? What made it easier, or harder? Leave a comment below. Your story might be exactly what someone else needs to hear.

If you'd like these tips delivered to your inbox, join my free newsletter, Weekly Wellness Tips. And if you're longing for more personal support, I offer one-on-one wellness conversations to help you discover where to begin.

You don't have to do everything. You just have to take the next small step. I'll see you next Friday.

With love and blessings,
